Student Discipline

  • The faculty, staff, students, and community of Hayes Elementary School agree that:

    School Expectations:

    • We will value one another as unique and special individuals.
    • We will not laugh at or make fun of a person's mistakes nor use sarcasm or putdowns.
    • We will use good manners, saying "please," "thank you," & "excuse me" and allow others to go first.
    • We will cheer each other to success.
    • We will help one another whenever possible.
    • We will recognize every effort and applaud it.
    • We will encourage each other to do our best.
    • We will practice virtuous living, using the Life Principles.

    Consequences
    In line with the Oklahoma City Public Schools Student Code of Conduct, we will utilize every method available to modify student behavior to reflect positive behavior patterns. Those include:

    POSITIVE INCENTIVES

    • Happy-grams
    • Parent Contact (phone calls, letters home, etc.)
    • Stickers
    • Brag Sheets To Principal
    • Special Activities
    • Rewards From Local Businesses
    • Guided Free Time

    CONSEQUENCES

    • Warning
    • 2nd Warning
    • Parent Contact (phone calls, letters home, etc.)
    • Time Out
    • Loss of Privileges
    • Change of Seating Arrangements
    • Parent Conference
    • Teacher Detention
    • Parent Shadowing
    • Disciplinary Referral To Office/Principal
    • When a student is referred to the office, Principal consequences may include:
    • Principal Detention
    • Loss of Privileges
    • Parent Shadowing
    • Suspension
    • Duty Assignments
    • Legal Charges
    • Any other consequences in line with the OKCPS Student Code of Conduct.

    Severe Clause: A student will be isolated immediately until a guardian is available to take the student home if:

    • A student presents a danger to themselves or others.
    • Other infractions as cited in the Oklahoma City Student Handbook
